The Karl Shiflett & Big Country Show
a bonafide hillbilly music extravaganza

Howdy folks! Thanks for dropping in. Take your shoes off and sit a spell. Check out the official KSBC website and the latest news.

It’s 2009! Another year has quickly come and gone.  The later part of 2008 found us at home catching up on chores left undone over the summer and enjoying the holiday season with family and friends.

Our travels this past year were very enjoyable and as always, it was a great pleasure to see all of our fans and friends out on the road. We are looking forward to another great year of music and fellowship in 2009 and encourage each and every one to be with us when we are in your area.

Speaking of 2009, be sure and mark your calendar for the 43rd Annual Bill Monroe Memorial Bluegrass Festival scheduled for June 13th thru June 20th  as well as the 35th annual Bluegrass Hall of Fame and Uncle Pen Days Festival to be held September 24th thru the 27th, 2009.  Both these events are held at Bill Monroe Memorial Bluegrass park in Bean Blossom, Indiana. For more information on these events and others at the park check out the official website at www.beanblossom.com

On a related subject, efforts continue by the many dedicated members of the “The Bean Blossom Brown County Jamboree Preservation Foundation Inc,” to raise money to purchase the legendary bluegrass park. Any and all contributions will make a difference. For more information about the organization and how you can help please visit the official website at www.BBJFoundation.org.

Dillon Scott , 16 years old, from Sullivan, Missouri has replaced Jessie Baker on 5 string banjo. Dillon is a fine musician and singer and a welcome addition to the band.  We look forward to working with him. We wish Jessie Baker the very best in his new position as banjo picker with “Michael Cleveland and the Flame Keepers”

We are progressing nicely on our new project. We have more than half of the tunes laid down. Looks like we will be working on the project over the winter months, possibly into early spring.  As I mentioned in my last update we are recording at a new studio in Henderson, Kentucky known as “Vincent Sound”.  Gary Vincent and his brother Jerry are great to work with and the sound we are getting at this recording facility is very impressive. I urge anyone who is looking to record to give this studio your consideration. This is a recording studio built exclusively for bluegrass music and the needs of bluegrass musicians. They will have a website coming soon. For more information you can contact Gary Vincent in Henderson, Kentucky at 270-748-2099.

Our fan club, is still growing. A special thanks to Lisa and Joe Kapatula from the great state of Pennsylvania for their continued enthusiasm and dedication.  They have done a great job and they are greatly appreciated. If you are interested in joining you can do so right here on the site and/or at our record table at any of our personal appearances. It doesn’t cost a thing. You will receive a very news worthy (and always humorous) newsletter every quarter (every 3 months) as well as an occasional courtesy email if we are performing in your area. Your support will be appreciated.

I’ll close for now. We will look forward to seeing you somewhere on the road this year. Thank your for checking out our site and thank your for your continued support.

Best wishes,
Karl Shiflett
