The Karl Shiflett
& Big Country Show “a bonafide hillbilly music extravaganza”
Howdy folks! Thanks for dropping in. Take your shoes off and sit a spell. Check out the official KSBC website and the latest news.
Wow! It's hard to believe this year is coming to an end so quickly. Fall is in the air and although we have a few more dates this year, we are home catching up on chores left undone over the summer. The holiday season is just around the corner and it's always a time we cherish to spend with family and friends.
Our travels this past year were very enjoyable and as always, it was a great pleasure to see all of our fans and friends out on the road. We are looking forward to another great year of music and fellowship in 2010 and encourage each and every one to be with us when we are in your area.
The festivals at Bean Blossom were well attended this year with again record attendance in June. We had rain in September, but still a great festival. We want to thank each and everyone who attended and ask you to be sure and mark your calendar for the 44th Annual Bill Monroe Memorial Bluegrass Festival for June 12th thru June 19th as well as the 36th Annual Bluegrass Hall of Fame and Uncle Pen Days Festival to be held September 22nd thru the 25th, 2010. Both these events are held at Bill Monroe Memorial Bluegrass Park in Bean Blossom, Indiana. For more information on these events and others at the park, check out the official website at www.beanblossom.com.
On a related subject, efforts continue by the many dedicated members of the “The Bean Blossom Brown County Jamboree Preservation Foundation Inc,” to raise money to purchase the legendary bluegrass park. For the latest news and information about the organization and how you can help, please visit the official website at www.BBJFoundation.org.
On August 1st of this year we were featured again on the increasingly popular television show for "PBS" known as "The Song of the Mountains". The show was taped again in front of a live audience at the historical "Lincoln Theater" in Marion, VA. The show will be aired on about 900 PBS stations sometime in early 2010. Check the official website www.songofthemountains.org for airing times.
On October 3rd we appeared at the huge "Bluegrass Celebration" at "Bill Monroe's Birth Place" high on "Jerusalem Ridge" near Rosine, KY. This was absolutely the biggest crowd ever to attend. Camera crews were on hand to film for the ever growing popular television show "The Cumberland Highlanders" featured on RFD TV each Saturday night nationwide. The portion we taped should be aired sometime around the first of the year. Watch your RFD TV programming schedule for exact times and dates.
During our time off we plan to finish up on a long overdue recording project. I'll keep you posted of progress and a projected release date. We are recording at a new studio in Henderson, Kentucky known as "Vincent Sound" owned and operated by Gary Vincent. Gary is a great guy to work with and the sound we are getting at this recording facility is very impressive. I urge anyone who is looking to record to give this studio consideration. This is a recording studio built exclusively for bluegrass music and the needs of bluegrass musicians. For more information you can contact Gary Vincent in Henderson, Kentucky at 271-748-2099.
Our fan club, is still growing. A special thanks to Lisa and Joe Kapitula from the great state of Pennsylvania for their continued enthusiasm and dedication. They have done a great job and they are greatly appreciated. If you are interested in joining you can do so right here on the site and/or at our record table at any of our personal appearances. It doesn’t cost a thing. You will receive a very news worthy (and always humorous) newsletter every quarter (every 3 months) as well as an occasional courtesy email if we are performing in your area. Your support will be appreciated.
I’ll close for now. We will look forward to seeing you somewhere on the road in 2010. Thank your for checking out our site and thank you for your continued support.
