The Karl Shiflett & Big Country Show
“Vintage Acoustic Country Music”

Howdy folks! Thanks for dropping in. Take your shoes off and sit a spell. Check out the new website and the latest news.

Well, the 2008 festival season is well under way. Our travels have been very enjoyable thus far this year.  We had a good trip in January out to Georgia and Florida for the New Years celebration and then a few weeks later out to Blyth California.  We also made a trip to Ohio and West Virginia as well as Wisconsin. Everywhere we have performed we have had the opportunity to visit with longtime friends and make new acquaintances‘. Hopefully we will get to visit with you somewhere this season.

Plans are under way for the 42nd Annual Bill Monroe Memorial Bluegrass festival in Bean Blossom Indiana the week of June 14th thru June 21st.  Over 50 of the best bands in bluegrass music will be performing including KSBC on Monday and Tuesday June 16th and 17th. We extend a special invitation to you and your family to join us for a great week of bluegrass music at Bill Monroe Memorial Park. There are several events during the year. For additional info on other events check out the official website www.beanblossom.com.

Preston Schmidt originally from North Dakota has replaced Brandon Godman on fiddle. Preston made his first performance with the band at “The Penny Royal Opry House” in Fairview Ohio, his second show was “The Mountaineer Opry House” in Milton West Virginia that same weekend. Preston is currently living in Johnson City, Tennessee and attending college at ETSU. He will be moving to Murphysboro, TN in the spring. Preston is a welcome addition to the group. Brandon has taken the fiddle position with “New Found Road”. We wish him the best.

Most recently, Chris Hill has left the group to fill the banjo position with “The James King Band”.  We wish Chris the best. Jessie Baker who had left the group in March to work with the “Wildwood Valley boys” has returned to KSBC on Banjo. Looking forward to working with Jessie again. David Long from Nashville Tennessee has filled the mandolin position left by Jessie Baker in March. David is a seasoned “Monroe” style mandolin player and has worked with the group in the past. We welcome David to the group.

The fan club is still growing. A special thanks to Lisa and Joe Kapatula for their continued enthusiasm and dedication.  Check out the fan club and join up. It doesn’t cost anything and the info is right here on the site.

Back in June of 2007 we recorded a television show for PBS called “Song of the Mountains”. It began in April to receive air play on about 900 PBS stations across the country. Since that time we have received a good deal of feed back.  Check out the official website (www.songofthemountains.org) for airing times.  If you have any comments on the show please post your comments on our guest book right here on the site.

We are endorsing a new recording studio in Henderson Kentucky where we plan to record as soon as possible. The studio is owned and operated by Gary Vincent and will be known as “Vincent Sound”. It should be open for business soon. Check back from time to time for “Grand opening” information.

Thanks for your continued support. Come out and be with us at as many festivals and concerts as you can. Check back often as new dates are still coming in. Hope to see you soon.

Thanks,
Karl
